In 1932, a group of official delegates
gathered at the Ottawa Conference to discuss the Great Depression and to establish trade and economic policies that were favorable to the Commonwealth Colonies. The conference was held between July 21 and August 20 in Ottawa, Canada.
The original 5-cent Canadian Allegory of Flight design was overprinted in blue with “6-cent Ottawa Conference” for the purpose of quickly expediting correspondence to the conferees. A special airmail service was inaugurated between Ottawa and Belle Isle, making it possible to get mail onto steamers that had left the previous day.
