This stamp bears witness to the wonder of Crater Lake National Park. Because of the exceptionally cold water, the lake has preserved a tall tree stump, called the "Old Man of the Lake", since at least 1896. The stump stands vertically and protrudes from the water nearly 4 feet. The Old Man moves freely throughout the lake, and has been observed to travel 62.1 miles during a three month observation period. Scott 745 Crater Lake
