This stamp shows Fort Dearborn, built in 1803 near the Chicago River by troops under Captain John Whistler. During the War of 1812 a surrendered garrison from Fort Dearborn was massacred by Potawatomi warriors led by Chief Blackbird. One of five commemorative sheets issued with "Farley's Follies," this sheet was originally printed in large sheet format and cut apart into the more wieldy form. Scott 766a Fort Dearborn
