"This distinctive design, recognizing the heroism of the early airmail pilots by replicating their wing insignia, was printed the first year on the flat plate press (Perf. 11). In 1931, production was transferred to the less expensive rotary press (Perf. 10 ½ x 11), while a rate increase brought about the 8¢ Winged Globe. The 6¢ version of the same design accompanied a 1934 rate reduction."
