"This historic reproduction of the first two US stamps was created for the Centennial International Philatelic Exposition (CIPEX) in New York City in 1947 and marked 100 years of U.S. postage stamps. To perfectly re-create these Franklin and Washington designs, the original, century-old dies were used to create the printing plates. Note that the colors were changed to blue and orange to avoid confusing the centennial issues with the originals.
