NEW DEFINITIVES Since 1908, Washington and Franklin had been the only American statesmen to appear on U.S. Definitive stamps. New designs, featuring eleven U.S. Presidents plus Benjamin Franklin and Martha Washington, were a welcome change for collectors as well as postal clerks.
