A postal salute to four American World War heroes - Audie Murphy, Omar N. Bradley, John L. Hines and Alvin C. York for their dedication, bravery and courage in serving their country.
General John L. Hines, a World War I veteran, was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and the Distinguished Service Medal for his bravery and leadership in combat.
General Omar Bradley commanded the First Army during the 1944 Allied landing in Normandy and later served as Army Chief of Staff and the first chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Sergeant Alvin C. York was awarded the Medal of Honor for his single-handed capture of German soldiers during the First World War.
Lieutenant Audie L. Murphy received the Medal of Honor for saving the troops in his company and single-handedly breaking up a German attack toward the end of World War II. (Sc #3393-96 pane of 20)
