  1. Me 262-Ia SchwalbeMesserschmitt - Me 262 Schwalbe was the world's first operational turbojet fighter aircraft. In World War II it saw action starting in 1944 for the Nazi Luftwaffe.
  2. Meteor F.MKB - Gloster Meteor was the first British jet fighter and the Allies' first operational jet in World War II.
  3. F-80 Shooting Star - Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star was the first operational jet fighter used by the United States Army Air Forces and saw extensive combat in the Korean War.
  4. F-86 Sabre - The swept-back winged F-86 Sabre was best known for its Korean War role where it was pitted against the Soviet MiG-15 and obtained UN air superiority.
  5. F9F-2 Panther - Grumman F9F Panther was the U.S. Navy's second fighter jet. It was the most widely used U.S. Navy jet fighter of the Korean War, flying over 78,000 sorties and was responsible for the first air kill by the U.S. Navy in the war.
  6. MiG-15 - Soviet MiG-15 was one of the first successful swept-wing jet fighters. It was feared in the skies over Korea, where early in the war, it outclassed all Allied fighters.
  7. F-100 Super Sabre - North American F-100 Super Sabre served the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1971. It was capable of supersonic speed in level flight.
  8. F-102A Delta Dagger - The Convair F-102 Delta Dagger was a U.S. interceptor aircraft built as part of the backbone of the U.S. air defenses in the late 1950s to intercept Soviet bombers.
  9. F-104 Starfighter - The Lockheed F-104 single-engine, supersonic interceptor featured a radical trapezoidal wing design. The F-104 was a lightweight, maneuverable, high-performance fighter that was called a "missile with a man in it."
  10. MiG-21 MT - The supersonic Soviet MiG-21 is the most produced combat aircraft since the Korean War. Fifty countries over four continents have flown the MiG-21, and it still serves many nations a half-century after its introduction.
  11. F8U Crusader - Vought F-8 Crusader was a single-engine carrier-based fighter aircraft. It was the last U.S. fighter designed with guns as its primary weapon and had an innovative wing that pivoted on takeoff and landing.
  12. F-105 Thunderchief - Republic F-105 Thunderchief, was a mach 2 fighter-bomber designed for high-speed low-altitude penetration and able to carry a single nuclear bomb. During the early years of the Vietnam War it bore the brunt of strike bombing over North Vietnam.
  13. Saab J35 Draken - Sweden's Saab J35 Draken is a fighter aircraft manufactured between 1955 and 1974 that utilized an innovated double-delta wing design that allowed performance at high speed as well as maneuverability at low speed.
  14. Fiat G91Y - Italy's light strike fighter was intended for use by all NATO countries but only Italy and Germany would utilize this aircraft in their fleets.
  15. F-4 Phantom II - McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II is a twin-engine, all-weather, long-range supersonic jet interceptor fighter/fighter-bomber originally developed for the U.S. Navy. It was used extensively during the Vietnam War.
  16. Saab JA 37 Viggen - Sweden's JA 37 utilized an innovative small canard wing above and in front of the sweeping delta-wing. This robust aircraft could operate from specially prepared roads to reduce the vulnerability to attack in the event of war and is capable of supersonic speeds at low altitudes.
  17. Mirage F1C - The French Mirage F1 was introduced in the early 1970s. This single-seat air-superiority fighter and attack aircraft is used by the air forces in a dozen nations.
  18. F-14 Tomcat - Grumman F-14 Tomcat is a supersonic, twin-engine, two-seat, variable-sweep wing aircraft. It served as the U.S. Navy's primary maritime air superiority fighter, fleet defense interceptor and tactical reconnaissance aircraft from 1974 to 2006.
  19. F-15 Eagle - McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle is a twin-engine, all-weather tactical fighter that is expected to serve until 2025. It was introduced to the U.S. Air Force in 1972, can climb vertically and is able to reach an altitude of 30,000 ft in one minute.
  20. F-16 Fighting Falcon - The U.S. Air Force's Fighting Falcon is a dogfighter with numerous innovations including a frameless, bubble canopy for better visibility, a side-mounted control stick to ease control while under high g-forces, and reclined seat to reduce the effect of g-forces on the pilot. Since its introduction in 1976 over 4,400 have been built and serve in the air forces of 25 countries.
  21. Tornado F.MK3 - Britain's Royal Air Force Tornado F3 is a fighter/interceptor capable of long-distance patrols from its base, supported by air-to-air refueling.
  22. Sukhoi Su-27UB - Russia's "Flanker" jet fighter was designed as a direct competitor for the U.S. F-16 fighter. The Su-27 has a 3,530 km range, heavy armament, sophisticated avionics and is highly agile.
  23. Mirage 2000C - Designed in the late 1970s as a lightweight fighter for the French Air Force, it evolved into a successful multi-role aircraft now in service in 9 countries with more than 600 Mirages built.
  24. Sea Harrier FRS.MK1 - Built for Britain's Royal Navy the Sea Harrier is capable of short take-offs and vertical landings.
  25. F-117 Nighthawk - The first operational aircraft designed around stealth technology it came into service in 1983. The U.S. Air Force utilized this aircraft for nighttime ground attack on highly-defended targets and saw extensive action in the 1991 Gulf War with Iraq.
