#3787 - 37¢ Old Cape Henry
The Old Cape Henry Lighthouse on Virginia's Chesapeake Bay was the first lighthouse authorized by the U.S. government, dating from 1792, and the government's first federal construction project. Although a second lighthouse was built in 1881, the original 90-foot structure was preserved as a historic landmark. It was built from the same Aquia Creek sandstone as the White House.
