During Indonesia's 1945-1949 battle for independence from the Dutch, nationalist forces issued attractive stamps that were smuggled past a Dutch naval blockade. This set, overprinted to commemorate the 1949 liberation of Jakarta, made it through the blockade and pictures a map of the failed blockade as well as some of the ships used to bring essential supplies to the beseiged islands.
