#1898 - 3¢ Handcar - coil

A handcar is a railroad car powered by its passengers, or by people pushing the car from behind. It is mostly used as a maintenance-of-way or mining car, but it was also used for passenger service in some cases. Their low weight and small size allowed them to be put on or taken off the rails at any place, which allows other trains to pass. Although the passenger-propelled handcar is largely obsolete, enthusiasts at vintage railroad events still conduct handcar races. Scott 1898 Handcar
