INDONESIAN INDEPENDENCE - #C19-31 1949 Complete Mint Airmail Set of 13

During their struggle for independence from the Netherlands, its government headed by President Sukarno made arrangements with printers in Austria and the United States to produce this colorful and attractive airmail set showing its leaders, airplanes over the Indonesian countryside, as well as pilots and aircraft mechanics. Amazingly, these stamps were smuggled past a Dutch blockade and distributed to local post offices. (#C19-31)
