Nova Scotia #11 Queen Victoria

Among the most attractive of the early Canadian provincial issues, this intricately engraved Nova Scotia 8 1/2ยข value of a youthful Queen Victoria is based on an 1859 portrait by Royal court painter Franz Xavier Winterhaler. Although Queen Victoria preferred the youthful profile used on most stamps issued during her reign, this is one of the first stamps to use an up-to-date portrait. Now 165 years old, it is one of a handful stamps issued by the former colony prior to joining the Canadian Confederation. (Nova Scotia #11)
