Save 40% off this 1883 Unused Stamp!

With a reduction of the basic postage rate in 1883 from 3¢ to 2¢, the U.S. Post Office issued a new 2¢ stamp to meet the decreased rate. Picturing the same bust of Washington that had been used on the earlier green 3¢ stamp, this stamp was printed in a red brown shade to avoid confusion. 2¢ Farming in the West

Save over 40% off our regular price!
One of America's most popular and attractive sets of commemorative stamps was issued at the 1898 Trans-Mississippi Exposition in Omaha, Nebraska, and offered finely-engraved glimpses of places and events from pioneer days in the American West. The design of "Farming in the West" was taken from a photograph of a plowing scene in Amenia, North Dakota. Seconds before the photographer snapped this picture, a gust of wind blew the hat off the farmer on the plow, and in grabbing his hat he covered his face. For years the farmer regretted this unfortunate incident that prevented his face from appearing on a stamp.
