John Glenn's Historic Space Flights - Save $2.00

1998 Mint Set of 6 & Commemorative Sheet

On July 18 America's space pioneer, John Glenn, would have celebrated his 100th birthday.

As our first astronaut to orbit the earth aboard Friendship 7, Glenn became a national hero after his successful 3-orbit flight.  Glenn also made space history again in 1998 when, as a 77 year old  US Senator, he returned to space aboard the space shuttle Discovery.

The Marshall Islands marked these achievementd with this interesting set comparing the liftoffs, spaceships and John Glenn for each flight.  The commemorative sheet features the 1962 U.S. "Man in Space" issue - a stamp prepared in secrecy and sent to post offices in sealed packages marked "Top Secret", not to be opened until the successful completion of the mission!
