Widespread criticism of George Washington’s red nose on the 2¢ stamp from the 1902-1903 Definitive Set known as the "Gingerbreads" prompted its replacement with a more flattering design showing Washington surrounded by a patriotic shield. See US #320 for the imperforate 2¢ issue.
