1923 Harding Memorial #610-612
When Warren G. Harding, America’s 29th President, died in San Francisco on August 2, 1923, the nation genuinely grieved his passing, and a request for a memorial stamp was quickly approved. Only 30 days after his death, new 2¢ black stamps that ignored Universal Postal Union regulations calling for all 2¢ issues to be red were placed on sale.
