#5456 - Maine Statehood

This beautiful stamp celebrates Maine's 200th anniversary. Also known as the Pine Tree State, Maine was a part of Massachusetts after the Revolutionary War, and didn't become a separate state until 1820. American painter Edward Hopper was one of many famous artists and writers that featured the state's expansive, rugged beauty in their work. His "Sea of Ogunquit" painting from 1914 used in this stamp captures the craggy coastline of Maine. Scott 5456 Maine Statehood
