Chien-Shiung Wu (1912-1997) was one of the most influential nuclear physicists of the 20th century. She became the leading authority on conducting precise, accurate research to test fundamental theories of physics during her 40-year career. Wu also worked on the Manhattan Project, developing the process to split and harness the power of the uranium atom used in the first atomic bomb. She is often called the "First Lady of Physics."
