Sonoran Desert Sheet - Save $2 on this 1999 Mint Sheet of 10

In 1999 the Postal Service inaugurated the "Nature of America" series with an attractive sheet of 10 stamps showing the beauty and variety of the Sonoran Desert, which covers parts of southern California, Arizona, and northwest Mexico.  With an area of 120,000 square miles, it is one of the largest and hottest deserts in North America, and home to thousands of plant and animal species.  Among the fascinating desert life highlighted on this sheet is the massive saguaro cactus, found only in the Sonoran Desert.  Despite the high temperatures, an abundant amount of rain falls here, allowing for an incredible diversity of life.  Other interesting desert life featured on this sheet include the tortoise, mule deer, gila monster, and even a small elf owl making its home in the saguaro.  As an added feature, the Postal Service printed an illustrated identifier of all of the highlighted species on the back of the sheet.
