Roberto Clemente FDC - Save 25% On This 1984 Cover

Roberto Clemente played 18 seasons for the Pittsburgh Pirates between 1955 and 1972. Considered one of the greatest baseball players of all time, he was an All-Star for 13 seasons and a Golden Glove Award winner in 12.

In the offseason Clemente devoted his time to charity work in Latin American and Caribbean countries, and tragically was killed in a plane crash while delivering relief goods to victims of the devastating 1972 Nicaragua earthquake. He has posthumously received numerous awards and tributes and was named a national hero of Puerto Rico. This 1984 stamp pictures Clemente wearing a Pirates cap and the Puerto Rican flag in the background. Postmarked in his birthplace of Carolina, Puerto Rico, on what would have been his 50th birthday, the first day cover features an attractive cachet of Clemente in action. (US #2097 FDC)
