Attended by 268,000 collectors almost 70 years ago, the Fifth International Philatelic Exhibition (FIPEX) was held in New York from April 28 to May 6, 1956 in the brand new New York Coliseum.  A highlight of the show was the release of a commemorative sheet with enlarged versions of the 3¢ and 8¢ Statue of Liberty definitives and the signature of the Postmaster General.  This sheet was the first postal issue to be printed in three colors by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.
