Thought to have crossed across the Bering land bridge from Siberia around 750,000 years ago, their populations once exceeded 2 million. By around 1900 the population of Bighorn Sheep had decreased to only several thousand. Various programs of reintroductions and conservation have increased the population of Bighorn Sheep.
