1902-1903 Definitive Issues #300-313
The Definitive stamps of 1902-1903, known familiarly as the Gingerbread set because of their engraved scrollwork and elaborate ornamentation, were the first U.S. stamps to give the birth and death years of each person being honored. Among them, the 8¢ Martha Washington marked the first American woman to be postally portrayed.
