Track and Field rules do not prescribe a "method" for the high jump, and many approaches have been tried. The "scissors," "eastern cut-off," and "western roll" have all been popular, but Dick Fosbury, the goofy champion from Oregon State University, innovated the sport with his "Fosbury Flop."
