Although it is speculated that the Navajo learned the art of weaving from the Pueblo people, the true origins of this fine Navajo craft remain unknown. Made on an upright loom, Navajo blankets were originally designed with utility in mind. However, by the 18th century the Navajo had begun to import yarn and incorporate complex patterns.
