#2847 - 29¢ Buchanan's No.999

Order Pre-cut Mounts 40 x 25 mm - 40 per pack

By 1876, passengers could travel by rail from New York to San Francisco in 7 days. While much faster than making the trip by wagon or on horseback, William Buchanan knew it could be done faster. He set to work designing a new locomotive, and the result was the beautiful 37 foot long No. 999. An engineering marvel of its time, the No. 999 set a world record for speed and was the first wheeled vehicle to exceed 100mph! This marvelous engine was eventually retired and can now be found in the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. Scott 2847 Buchanan's No. 999
