In 1945, WWII was winding down, 51 nations gathered for an international conference and signed an agreement creating the United Nations. The organization celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 1995 and used the occasion as an opportunity to celebrate its successes and to discuss what direction and role the UN should play in the future. Many events organized for the celebration focused on increased awareness and education of the UN through the inclusion of young people, as they will grow up to be future leaders.
