#3905 - 37¢ Yip Harburg

Edgar "Yip" Harburg (1896-1981) was a popular song lyricist who worked with many well-known composers. His work was distinguished by his intelligence, inventiveness, and humanity. He wrote the lyrics for several standards, including "Over the Rainbow", "April in Paris", and "Brother, Can You Spare a Dime". In addition to penning the lyrics to more than 600 songs, Harburg is credited with helping to transform the musical play from a star vehicle into a story in which music and dance advance the plot rather than interrupting it.
