#4347 - 42¢ Sunflower
Easily identified by its bright yellow petals and distinct sun-like appearance, the sunflower is native to North and Central America. Though its name may be derived from its appearance, it is also thought to come from the impression that the blooming plant appears to turn to follow the sun through the sky each day. While it is true that the immature flower buds do exhibit this heliotropic behavior, the mature plant’s stem lacks the flexibility to continue this pattern. The fruit of the sunflower plant, better known as sunflower seeds, have a variety of culinary and agricultural uses. Scott 4347 Sunflower
