#4492 - (44¢) Year of the Rabbit

In Chinese mythology, Buddha asked that all animals meet him on the day of the Chinese New Year, and that the first twelve to arrive would have a year named after them. People who are born under each animal’s sign are said to inherit some of that animal’s traits. Those born under the sign of the Rabbit are said to be cautious, mannerly and sensitive. They may also be thought of as lucky. This stamp not only marks the fourth in a series of twelve that will honor each animal in the Zodiac, but is also the first stamp to be issued following the decision that all First-Class Mail commemorative stamps would be Forever Stamps.
