#657 - 2¢ Sullivan Expedition - carmine

John Sullivan, a New Hampshire lawyer, rose to the rank of Major General in the Continental Army. In 1779 he led a controversial campaign against the Iroquois in western New York, destroying the settlements and supplies of these close allies of the British. Criticized for brutality, he resigned from the Army. Considered a hero, he entered politics and later became the third governor of New Hampshire. Scott 657 2¢ Sullivan Expedition
