Victor Herbert was popular American composer, cellist, and conductor. Herbert's compositions are American classics and include "Babes in Toyland" and the song "Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life". Perhaps Herbert's most lasting contribution to the American music was as a founder of the American society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) which has defended composer's copyrights for nearly a century.
