# 896 - 3¢ Idaho Statehood: plate block

Idaho became the 43rd state admitted to the United States on July 3, 1890. Originally organized as the "Colorado Territory" the origins of the name "Idaho" are not entirely known. While some contend that Idaho is a Native American word there is some evidence to suggest that it was made up entirely as a hoax!
