# 909S - Overrun Nations Set of 13 - 909-921
During World War II, the U.S. issued 13 stamps hailing the courageous spirit of countries overrun by Nazi and Japanese forces. Each features the occupied nation's flag and symbolic figure of a woman breaking the shackles of oppression. The U.S. released this Patriotic set between June 1943 and November 1944. It was America's first issue using more than 2 colors and it was printed by the American Banknote Company because the Bureau of Engraving & Printing lacked multi-color printing presses needed to accurately replicate the flag colors.
