#977 - 3¢ Moina Michael FDC

In 1915 Moina Michael wrote a poem that linked the red Poppy with the veterans who gave their lives for their country. "We cherish too, the Poppy red That grows on fields where valor led, It seems to signal to the skies That blood of heroes never dies." She also came up with the idea to wear red poppies on Memorial day to honor those who died serving the nation during war. She sold poppies to her friends and co-workers with the money going to benefit servicemen in need. Scott 977 Moina Michael.
