Philippines #C4 Madrid-Manila Flight - Scarce 1926 Mint Airmail - Save $10

On April 5, 1926, three Spanish pilots, mechanics and their biplanes left Madrid on a daring 11,000-mile trip to Manila, Philippines, to prove the possibility of an air route from Europe to the Far East. Traveling mostly over land and making numerous stops for fuel and repairs, two planes broke down on the way, and on May 13, 1926, the one remaining plane landed in Manila.

To commemorate this flight, one year before Lindbergh's famous flight, the Philippines post office overprinted stamps for use on souvenir covers carried on the flight. The  quantity overprinted was only 5,000 and the stamps immediately sold out to enthusiastic collectors. (Philippines #C4)
