Airmail Evolution - 1927 First Uniform Cross Country Rate

On February 1, 1927 the Post Office simplified airmail rates to a uniform 10¢ across the country, rather than a variety of rates based on distance. Also introduced were Contract Air Mail (CAM) agreements with private airlines to transport mail, rather than government-owned planes, ushering in faster, cheaper airmail service. These historic covers were among the first carried by air on this day that modernized airmail delivery.
