Polish-born General Thaddeus Kosciusko was a national hero in both the United States and Poland. A colonel in the Continental Army, he designed state of the art fortifications including West Point. Returning to Poland after the war, he organized an uprising against Russia. The statue shown on this stamp stands in Lafayette Park in Washington DC. Scott 734 3¢ General Kosciusko
