Actress, singer-songwriter, and comedian, Hattie McDaniel (1895-1952) has appeared in over 300 films during her 20-year career in the entertainment industry. Though initially criticized for some of her roles, she has been honored with two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as well as being the first African American entertainer to win an Academy Award.
