Thurn & Taxis #47 1 kr - 1859 Issue

Before its unification in 1871, Germany was a group of independent duchies, kingdoms, principalities, and city-states. Most issued their own postage stamps, which are highly prized today as forerunners of stamps issued by modern Germany.
