It is often forgotten that the United States occupied Okinawa, or the Ryukyu Islands, from the end of World War II to 1972 and issued stamps denominated in American dollars. This lovely set pictures flowers, sea life, and butterflies found in these islands located between Japan and Formosa. (Okinawa #58-62)
