Based on a painting by Gilbert Stuart, the 10¢ Washington was commonly used to pay postage on coast-to-coast letters. In Type I, the lower right shell is intact and the lower left shell is missing parts of the outside curved lines. The upper and lower outer frame lines are incomplete. Scott 13 10¢ Washington type I
