#690 - 2¢ General Pulaski

Benjamin Franklin met the Polish-born Casimir Pulaski in Paris in 1777.  Impressed with his military service in Poland's war against Russia, he recommended Pulaski to General Washington, who made him a General in command of the cavalry, where he saved Washington's life in the Battle of Brandywine. He was mortally wounded during the 1779 siege of Savannah and is remembered as a hero who fought for Polish and American independence. Scott 690 2¢ General Pulaski
