#3192 - 32¢ Remember the Maine

In February 1898 the USS Maine exploded in Havana Harbor with a loss of 253 sailors and marines. In the U.S. public opinion began to blame Spain for the tragedy, much of that was influenced by "Yellow Press" journalism by William Randolph Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer. "Remember the Maine" became a rallying cry for action which led to the Spanish-American War later that year.
