1929 Herbert Hoover Inaugural Cover

On March 4, 1929, Herbert Hoover took the oath of office from Chief Justice William H. Taft, the second and most recent time a former President administered the oath of office. It was also the first time an inauguration was recorded on sound film. Less than 8 months after taking office, the nation was struck by the Great Depression and Hoover spent most of his presidency attempting to rebuild the nation's economy.
