Overrun Nations Name Blocks - 1943-44 Complete Set of 13 Plate Blocks

As a reminder of the nations whose freedom we were fighting to regain, the U.S. released this patriotic set during World War II depicting the flags of 13 countries occupied by the Axis powers. Printed by the American Banknote Company using the latest multicolor printing technology, these were the first stamps in 50 years to be printed by a private contractor. Since the sheets did not bear plate numbers, plate blocks are collected as blocks showing the name of each country from the top right corner of the sheet. (US #909-921)
