1934 Yosemite S/S FDC - #751

Postmaster General James Farley delighted collectors by authorizing commemorative sheets honoring two 1934 philatelic exhibitions: a gummed, imperforate sheet of six 3¢ Mt. Rainier National Park stamps, issued for the American Philatelic Society convention in Atlantic City, NJ; and a gummed, imperforate sheet of six 1¢ Yosemite National Park stamps publicizing the Trans-Mississippi Philatelic Exhibition in Omaha, NE.

Picturing the majestic El Capitan, Yosemite National Park in central California was established in 1890 after being protected from development when President Lincoln signed the Yosemite Grant in 1864. Yosemite National Park is one of America's most beautiful natural areas and is visited by over 3.5 million people each year. Almost 95% of the park is designated as wilderness and is home to an abundance of wildlife including Mule Deer and Marmots.
