#1795 - 15¢ Speed Skating
Competitive speed skating began in Norway during the mid-nineteenth century with Amsterdam hosting the first "world championship" in 1889. Speed skating reached Olympic-level competition at the winter sports week in Chamonix in 1924, which was retroactively awarded Olympic status. American Eric Heiden dominated the event at the Lake Placid 1980 Winter Olympics by winning every single men's race. Scott 1795 Speed Skating
