1931-1933 Latakia - 19 Stamps In Presentation Album

With the fall of the Ottoman Empire after World War I, its Middle East territories were split into French and British Mandates. Over time these carved out areas experienced unrest because many were not formed along cultural boundaries. That was the fate of Latakia, whose short-lived existence lasted until 1936 when it was absorbed into Syria. A total of 33 stamps were overprinted for Latakia between 1931 and 1933, and 19 of these elusive Latakia stamps are in this collection. Representing 57% of all of Latakia’s postage stamps, they have a catalog value of more than $145. Mounted in an attractive gold-titled port-folio, this collection includes the history of Latakia as well as descriptions of the landmarks displayed on each stamp, many of which have been destroyed during conflicts in the past century.
